I have this ridiculous pipe dream of one day building an ecovillage commune made up of tree houses and hobbit home earth ships, resting somewhere in Northern California, surrounded by majestic redwood trees. I would call it Ewok City, and in the middle of the city would be the Church of Ewok, standing for Enlightened World of Kindness. This church would be based on the fictional yet peaceful Ewoks who basically lived in utopia fighting the technological Galactic Empire. Maybe I should get ordained and start this.
Did you know that, according to Wikipedia, the Ewoks are named after the Miwok, a Native American tribe, indigenous to the Redwood forest in which the Endor scenes were filmed for Return of the Jedi, near the San Rafael location of Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch? I also read online that the Ewok words are loosely based on the Tibetan language run backwards. Others have hypothesized the language to be based on Kalmyk, natively spoken by a people in Russia.
Anyways, in my imaginary church I would like to have weekly Yub Nubs, which means celebrations. I joked about this to a friend of mine, and he told me that I would probably get a lot of Star Wars fan followers. If god had a sense of humor god would probably love a church like this. In today’s world we all need a sense of humor, and it would be great to live in this for a while. If only this ridiculous Ewok church dream could come true.
