Mabon DoorWashing

Mabon is a time of balance, the light has waned and the dark nights will now grow longer. As we welcome the dark half of the year, we begin to focus on our homes and ourselves One of my favorite ways to usher in the season, is with a door cleansing; while light and dark are equal.

Doors themselves are magickal and full of lore. Symbolically, they represent the threshold to other worlds and realms. Cleansing and enchanting our doors for prosperity and protection is a custom that goes back centuries. Our ancestors took this time to stimulate their genius loci and attract benevolent spirits to guard and bless their homes for the winter ahead.

What You Will Need:

3 drops of peppermint essential oil/ extract or 3

bags of peppermint tea (You get the idea)

2 drops of lavender oil or 2 sprigs of fresh lavender

Hot water

A cloth (I use black, for the dark half of the year)

A bowl or bucket (I use a silver ice bucket, I like shiny

things)

What to Do:

Put your peppermint and lavender oil into your bowl and pour on hot water. Take your cloth and scrub that door! Starting in the centre and working outwards moving clockwise; while cleaning, repeat three times:

“Happiness and Abundance, welcome inside!

Where peace and love always reside.”

When you’re finished, wring your cloth out under running

water, dry thoroughly and keep it for further cleansing.

Return the water to the earth.

Now is a great time to water you plants, and hang any

seasonal outdoor decorations you might have.

**This year, I also smudged with some white sage from our

circle’s Mabon celebration. Rosemary and Palo Santo are also

great, if you’re feelin’ plucky.
