Glow

Yesterday, we decided to hike at Balboa Park and I was reminded through a Facebook event that it was Saint Patrick’s Day. Of course, I was not wearing any green and wished I ran into some place where I can find something green to wear. I guess the heavens were listening because an angel at the corner of a street just past a church was selling Saint Patrick’s Day trinkets for just a few dollars. I purchased a rainbow sweat headband with a four leaf clover embroidered on it along with matching wrist bands. I also picked up some green gloves and green headpiece that made me look like I was either Medusa or from the movie Predator. It had a little switch to LED lights so it can glow in the dark and little kid’s especially loved it as I was approached by them quite a bit through the day, their mouths gaping open in awe like they were just meeting Elmo or Barney, the purple dinosaur. At the parade, someone handed me a bag of goodies and someone else handed me a chocolate bar. Score! It felt like my lucky day!

Afterwards, we headed over to the Japanese Friendship Gardens where the lines were long and crazy. We stumbled on an entrance where they were taking VIP tickets or people with membership. I was happy to be a member and not have to go to Linecon, Many people approached me on the headpiece, some who also had no clue it was Saint Patrick’s Day. Some asked me if I was in the parade. I was actually surprised that there weren’t more people with the headpiece from the street vendor. It was great to see so many people dressed up for the event. We helped support the vendors and picked up some cool Japanese shirts with unique designs and met the artist selling them off. Then we picked up food from another vendor and had a picnic on the grass underneath a cherry blossom tree. Things were great except for the traffic leaving. A man took a parking spot and tried to hold it for his wife. He was natural leader as he took it upon himself to manage the traffic. After he gave the wife his spot he ran still ran around to direct cars so things were more efficient. I laughed at him and told them he needed to get paid for that and he laughed back.

When we got home we barely had time for a nap until we headed out to Sabbat, a goth club. I borrowed a black lacy dress from one of my besties, Sutra, and decided on wearing the Saint Patrick’s Day headpiece for the fun LED lights. I also brought a Space Whip, a flow toy for dancing. Sutra had one too and we pretty much took over the dance floor before the crowd came. A lady approached us and asked if she could film which we accepted. So many people complimented me on look and on my dancing, but I don’t really know how to dance as I just made it up as I went along.

Sutra was getting restless and wanted to head over to a rave where we would meet another bestie, Luna. I didn’t really want to go, but since it was her birthday weekend I caved in. It was actually my first rave as all the other parties I have been to were legit. This place was a bitch to get into as we had to go through rocky terrain into storm drains with graffiti art on the walls. Sutra did not anticipate the rocky terrain so she removed her platform shoes.

The rave was okay, but I could only stand so much of techno unless they DJ was really good. I met many people who also inquired on my headpiece and complimented my non-existent dancing skills. It felt great to meet such friendly strangers. On the way back, we got lost, but eventually found the trail of glow sticks, laid out like Hansel and Gretel’s breadcrumbs to guide us back home.

Update: So Saint Patrick’s Day is actually Thursday so I guess it was just the parade day. It’s funny because I was wishing people Happy Saint Patrick’s day that day. LOL
