I have been very busy lately, but in a good way. Just when I was about to give up, I landed my dream job! My boss is a woman and she rocks! She is approachable, positive, professional, and definitely a leader that I can look up to. I don’t think I’m speaking prematurely. Sometimes your gut just knows and I’m learning so much from her already. My team is funny and helpful. We are all working remotely. I know it has only been a week, but I feel like I fit here. I wrote a couple of scripts which took me a while because I’m rusty, but I’m getting back into it and I love it! Finally, I feel challenged!
I’m still working at the church on the weekends, but am training someone so hopefully I can have a day off soon. I’m also designing their AV system and just waiting on a few pieces of equipment to complete it. It’s all very exciting and stressful at the same time.
Days have been hot, but I have been swimming for exercise. It’s great because it’s fun and I don’t have to feel myself sweat!
Our fridge broke last weekend just after shopping at Costco. Most of the stores were out and we needed a specific size so we had to order one from Lowe’s. It will take two weeks to deliver so meanwhile we purchased a small freezer and are using coolers.
School has started back up for the kids and they are also learning remotely. My oldest son’s manager started scheduling him on Sundays even though he had mentioned he can’t work those day’s because he had church activities and it is the Sabbath. His manager didn’t care and told me that his work comes first, reminding me of a chief who once told me that I was soldier first as he forced our entire squadron to drive to work during a hurricane.
I corrected his manager saying that my son is a student and school comes first. Then this guy made threats to let my son go if he didn’t meet his scheduling demands. I’m pretty sure scheduling my son on Sundays and not respecting him taking those days off for religious purposes is illegal. I have talked to some attorney friends and they confirm doing so is indeed illegal and If that happens we could sue. My son doesn’t want me to interfere because he is afraid of his boss and doesn’t want to get fired.
I hate seeing my son go through this. Managers who abuse their power make me sick, especially when those employees are considered essential and are risking their health working through a pandemic. I hope karma bites this guy in the ass. If he ends up wrongfully terminating my son he will feel a mother’s wrath. The previous managers were very respectful and actually valued their student employees. Bad management really pisses me off!
Despite that, overall things have been moving and I am trying to stay positive. Hopefully our political climate changes for the better come November. So much has happened in the news this week. More violence and killing. A black man named Jacob Blake was shot in the back and paralyzed by police in Kenosha in front of his children. Meanwhile, a seventeen year old Kyle Rittenhouse fatally shot two protestors in Wisconsin and Trump defends him saying it was self defense, which it wasn’t.
A friend of mine brought up a very good observation on bias in the media in regards to race. Shooters of color are seen as terrorists while white shooters are portrayed as mentally ill. He writes,
So, are we ready to stop calling people militia members and start calling them gang members. The militias of the 2nd ammendment haven’t existed in this country since the revolution, we don’t call Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings, or whatever street gang militias. So why can’t we act like adults and accept that we don’t have militias anymore, we have gangs. A southern white gang isn’t a militia, grow up.
Hopefully, we can vote the tyrant out this November! Don’t forget to vote blue!
