We may not be able to change the past, but we can plan for the future ahead. We are living in an era where we can create systemic change that helps everyone.
Universities and places of work should foster more diversity and inclusion. Part of that support system should include childcare, which is usually a great burden to the marginalized and a privilege for the few.
Why not have care centers where parents help other parents when others are free? In order for this system to work, we need to incorporate a rotation schedule and get rid of the 8 hour work day. This system would be based on community where workers and students can rotate caring for their children, studying, or working. It would also promote a work life balance.
It takes a village to raise a child. Let’s incorporate that village into the universities and places of work.
Of course, we will need a vaccine first.
