Happy Fourth!
I started my new job this week, and I am loving it! My new team is hilarious and I need that. They welcomed me and made me feel at home before I even started. The only negative thing, which is actually huge, is that my director got hit by a truck. Luckily, he survived and is hoping to be back in a couple of weeks. Even after this news, the atmosphere at work was light and hopeful. People focused on the positive and made fun of the negative. I’m already learning a lot, especially life skills on how to take on the world through humor. I love the fact that I don’t feel distant and isolated there. I love how people are thankful, especially towards IT. I love that one of my new coworkers greeted me with decadent cupcakes from Babycakes, which was my first from that place. I love that I get to re-cable the entire network for two campuses, and that I’m not completely lost! I love organization and this my chance to organize!
So, who’s Marcie, you may be wondering. I wonder who she is too. On my second day on the job I had to meet one of my trainers at the tech office to rewire some closets and swap out access points. When I got there he was on a call with one of his clients.
Looking at my desktop, facing away from him, I heard him yelling, “Marcie,” several times. I heard a man’s voice on the other line of his mobile phone which he had set to speaker, and thought how odd that the man was named Marcie.
My trainer yelled the name again and again and I wondered what was going on so I turned around to find him looking dead at me. “Marcie, are you listening? Can you hear me?”
“I’m not Marcie,” I said, bewildered. He must have thought I was deaf until I set him straight. A roar of laughter came after the confusion.
When we met up with the others I told them what happened and everyone was cracking up. It was great!
I love how I’m making memories like this already. One day I think I’ll write Marcie down on my name tag.
