The Quote & Then Some

“The reason for the sadness of this modern age and the men who live in it is that it looks for truth in everything and finds it.” ~Edmund and Jules Goncourt

I believe that what modern age and its technology finds is the world’s bane, the reason for the sadness.  As we learn more about the sciences and as we discover much truth about the world, a kind of happy ignorance is taken away from us.  As we receive more answers to our questions, we lose a certain innocence.  We know more, and as we do we find out how little we know.

Modern technology, discoveries, and facts leave little room for myths and legends that cannot be proven.  Our religious beliefs are doubted.  We become skeptical about things that cannot be proven by modern science.  That form of skepticism, that belief that all must be in order and science is truth, leaves us with less dreams and hopes for the mysterious, unreal phenomenon of this day’s age.  We come to rely on what is tangible and what can be proven rather than relying on basic values and beliefs.  It is sad we must look for an answer in everything, and even more sad to find it.  It destroys a certain mystery filled with endless, questionable faith.  It destroys faith itself.
